How is Butane Transported?

Trust C Three Logistics with Safe, Reliable Butane Transport

butane logistics eastern u.s. Butane is typically transported to distribution centers via dedicated high vapor pressure (HVP) pipelines, or in batches as purity products within pipelines for other petroleum products.

However, there are areas of the country not served by these pipelines, particularly parts of the western U.S., Florida, and the New England states. Here, railroads and trucks are mainly used to transport butane.

Transporting butane and other liquid petroleum gases (LPGs) by truck requires using a logistics and transportation company that not only has knowledge about butane, but about the many regulations and safety standards involved in its transport.

C Three Logistics has extensive experience in transporting butane, along with propane and propylene, too.

What is Butane?

Butane is a hydrocarbon, a colorless, odorless, easily liquified gas comprised of four carbon atoms and ten hydrogen atoms, with the molecular formula C4H10.

As a hydrocarbon, butane is one of the more commonly used propellants in household and industrial aerosols since hydrocarbons replaced chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as propellants in the late 1980s because of the ozone layer damage caused by CFCs. The most common application for butane is as a lighter fuel for fireplace and cigarette lighters and butane torches.

Butane Transportation Details

Not just any logistics and transportation company have what it takes to transport butane.

C Three Logistics has the knowledge, experience, technology, and trained staff to handle your butane transport. We understand the rigorous regulatory demands of transporting hazardous materials like butane, and work within those.

In addition to federal regulations, the transportation and delivery of butane may be impacted by state and local regulations and mandates.

For example, towns may have strict regulations on trucks transporting flammable liquids such as butane. While some areas mandate that the vehicles take specific routes through sparsely populated zones of town, others may forbid these trucks from entering the community altogether.

At C Three Logistics, we attention to every detail. We make sure that we use the right truck—an MC331—that is well-maintained and safe. We make sure that the proper hazardous material placards are on the truck.

Our routes are mapped out for not only efficient transport, but safe transport that considers required routes and routes where hazardous materials are not allowed.
